Hello!

I have a room for rent in my little 2BD 1BA cottage in Sellwood! You would be living with me (I own the home) and my 2 tabby cats (it’s really their house). The room is available as early as June 15th, but I have flexibility for a slightly later move-in date for the right fit.

About the house: It's on the small side (less than 700 sq ft): very cute and cozy. There’s only room for one additional person to live here comfortably. The room is 9x8’. The ceilings are tall (over 8’), so a lofted bed is possible, if you’re into that. We have a clothes washer and dryer, a dishwasher, a gas range stove oven, some storage space in the basement, a driveway, and ample street parking. No central A/C, but the living room has an efficient window unit, and I have tricks up my sleeve to keep it quite comfortable in the summer. In the winter I like to keep it around 68ish, but I turn it down a bit for sleeping. The house is fully furnished (other than your bedroom) so it’s ideal if you have fewer furniture pieces. I’m excited about the idea of co-curating the common spaces with someone who also enjoys an eclectic blend of thrifted, jungalow, whimsy-goth, hobbit vibes.

The backyard is decently-sized, fully-fenced, and very private. There are plenty of gardening opportunities and a HUGE fig tree with the most delicious figs I have ever tasted. There is currently a patio that will soon become a covered, 200-square-foot, screened-in catio where we can hang out with the kitties!

The location: We're next to Westmoreland Park and within walking distance of the heart of Sellwood's many cafes, restaurants, and shops. It’s close to many bus routes and a 9-minute walk to the Orange Line. Sellwood is also home to Oaks Amusement Park, Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge, and where most of Portland's antique shops have congregated. We're a short drive to Reed College, Lewis and Clark College, OHSU, and downtown.

About Me: I’m Meadow (they/she), queer, highly sensitive, a socialist, magic-practicing, 4w5, INFJ, millennial, pisces. I like to spend my evenings and weekends at home with the cats, working on home improvement projects, gardening, crafting, or getting lost in a good story (film, TV, or books). If I leave the house for something other than work or errands, it’s probably to go thrifting, visit the bookstore, or spend time in nature / with a friend. I occasionally have friends or family over and always give my housemate prior notice; I ask for the same courtesy as well. I like to keep the space fairly clean and tidy. It's key that we align with similar standards of cleanliness and share the value and practice of daily upkeep. I enjoy low mood-lighting in the evenings, I’m usually in bed by 10:30pm, and I take end-of-day showers, rather than in the morning. My lungs are pretty sensitive to smoke, so this is a no-smoking home. I’m scent-sensitive as well but I do occasionally light incense (with fresh air flow) or burn mildly scented candles. I just can’t allow for strong odors from things like cigarettes, weed, strong perfume/cologne, and certain cleaning products. I currently eat almost everything, but I am totally open to accommodating reasonable requests; for example, if peanut residue will k!ll you, I can go peanut free; or if you have a special cast iron pan that you’d like to keep vegan, let me know!

About the Kitties: Sky and Kylo are litter-mates that I adopted when they were the size of tea-cups. They are primarily indoor cats but we do hang out in the backyard together when I can keep an eye on them. Sky is very talkative and friendly but does have bouts of anxiety. He’s also an escape-artist so it’s important to keep that in mind when opening the exterior doors. Kylo is a big scaredy-cat but once he realizes you aren’t going to eat him, he melts into a marshmallow sweetheart with big purr-energy. They have never lived with any other animals and are very upset by the outdoor neighbor cats, so I’m hesitant to invite any more fur-babies into our home. I would consider someone with a cat if they (and their cat) are an excellent fit for us. We would have to take all the recommended steps to introduce your cat to mine to ensure harmonious co-dwelling.

Rent is $1,200 + utilities which are split equally. One-year lease, then month-to-month. Move-in cost includes the first month's rent (prorated for a partial month), the last month’s rent, and a refundable security deposit of $600.
