Hello, all! My current roommate of around 4 years is moving in with their partner, and so I am looking for someone to rent out the extra room in the duplex I live in. I'm hoping to find someone kind, thoughtful, and responsible. Bonus points if you like a house full of books and plants.
I'm more of an introvert, but I do enjoy conversations, especially deeper and "what's happening in life" ones. I am more on the quiet side - I watch tv in my room using a projector and headphones, and I'm trying to push myself to be more creative - drawing, learning how to crochet, learning how to metal work just a little with a colleague (just for fun - I am nowhere close to being a natural at any of this).
It would be nice to be friends with my roommate to some degree, but obviously only if that occurs organically. I have lived in this space since 2014, so it's pretty settled in, but we can discuss what that looks like for your needs/hopes - I want the space to feel like yours, as well. Hopefully our aesthetics will be decently similar, but we can always try changing things up.
Again, mainly I'm looking for someone kind, thoughtful, and responsible, and I hope this describes me, as well.

Hello, all! I am renting the spare room in my duplex. I live right off of Alberta and 19th. It's a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom (w/claw foot bathtub) very close to Petite Provence, Proud Mary, Tin Shed, etc. The house has great light, wood floor downstairs, tall ceilings, and lots of books and plants. My current roommate has been here around 4 years and is about to move in with their partner. The room should be open around the beginning of June, but there's also some flexibility there.
The bedroom is 15' by 10', has a closet, some built in nook shelves, a new ceiling fan w/light, and lots of window light. There's a basement with a washing machine and drier and one half of a backyard (duplex, so yard is split in half). Neighbors are cool, though.
The room is $750, not counting utilities (this varies per month but gas, electric, water, and wifi usually ends up being around $400ish a month, split 2 ways. A bit more in the winter.
Me (Karl): I am a former elementary teacher who now works at a middle school in the neighborhood running the library and a few other programs. I have lived in this home since 2014.
I'm interested in (improving at) gardening, drawing, yoga, jogging, figuring out life, conversations that go past small talk (though small talk is fine, as well), drinks with friends, catching an occasional thorns game (and now Portland Fire), and pushing myself to enjoy more of what's around us in Oregon. I also love different ideas about religion, myth, and spirituality (not in a dogmatic way, just in an open and interested way). I'm pretty laid back, clean, responsible, an introvert but love meaningful conversations with people, and will often be reading on a couch, or listening to a record while cooking dinner, or out and about with friends. I lost my little border terrier and buddy, Enzo, at 15 and a half just over a month ago, so still adjusting to that change in routine. Possibly open to a new pet if you have one, depending on the circumstances. If it's a moose, I'll need a backstory.
You: Someone who enjoys being around plants, books, music, hopefully having meaningful conversations, is interested in figuring out life, and is also fine with an introverted space. I personally don't love the energy of a tv downstairs, but it's not a dealbreaker. Ideally a non smoker. Hopefully someone with a better sense of growing a garden in the backyard (I usually end up with only kale and arugula). Also someone responsible and reasonably clean. Mainly someone who is kind, thoughtful, and responsible (to be clear, that has described the people I've lived with in the past - it's not a dig).
Just to repeat for quick access: Room is $750, not counting utilities. The room will be open around June. Mainly looking for someone thoughtful and kind and that gels well.
Thanks, all!
