Hey there! I’m Josh. I’ve lived in Portland the past 5 years working in advertising and digital design. I’ve recently started my own business that allows me to work remote after developing patented design software and work with service fleet graphic systems. I’m a part owner of a digital media company in Guangzhou and Shanghai, China which allows me to work remote. Sometimes my meetings are at 12am, but I’m quiet.
Before Portland I was living mainly in Hong Kong for 14 years, Beijing, Shanghai, Pakistan, and Singapore for a total of 6 years, working in Branding, Digital products, and a 4-year stint working with the National Geographic Channel covering the Himachal Pradesh (Northern Himalayas - Pakistan through Nepal and Tibet) as a content development and civil coordinator contractor.
I race outriggers and dragon boats - my main Portland team is Mountain Home. I also race with teams in Hong Kong and Hawaii which has me out of town a few times a year.
Other spare time activities include that I volunteer much time working on the preservation and maintenance of Forest Service Cabins in the Mt. Hood wilderness and Olallie lake, as well as setting up a low impact solar powered MeshCore communication system in those areas - as there’s no phone coverage.
I’ve recently got back in to mechanical engineering for IoT communication projects, and an anti-human trafficking tech project.
I’m clean, quiet, not home much. When I am home, I’m working, programming/ building a circuit board, or working on an illustration. I’m a minimalist and I don’t own a lot of stuff aside from paddles, camp gear, a mini-bike, a cool art collection and and a some crazy old Asian antiques I’ve picked up along my journeys. I love the wilderness and travel - always keen to share beta on traveling and camping if needed and always up for a river float or exploring far out lakes.
I’m getting out from my current apartment as the expense is ridiculous, and the neighborhood isn’t ideal. I may have an opportunity to end up back in Hong Kong by Spring 2027 hence the month to month, though I’ll have 2-3 months notice before.
I have a solid credit score that sits around 795-810 - I’m a no debt and no financial problems person. I don’t leave people hanging when it comes to a contract, shared home and bills - I don’t leave anyone in a bad spot regardless. My communication and boundaries are simple and clear. I’m mentally stable, financially stable, have a small and trustworthy group of friends in their 30s to 50s here. I’m pretty much always in a good mood, positive and can-do energy, always happy to lend a hand. I make it a point to stay out of other’s personal and professional business - I’m 0 drama, and look for the same. I have references if needed. I keep my political and religious views to myself, I’m accepting of everyone from any background, though I don’t vibe with mean people, racists, thieves, habitual liars, generally shitty people are not my thing.
I’m not on Facebook and a majority of social media platforms - except Instagram which is a throwback from Nat Geo days and to stay in touch with friends around the planet (crowded_studios). Pets are cool. I don’t have any of my own these days, but cats and dogs might love me more than you - no offense. 🤓
I’m an open book to any questions and happy to try and answer what you ask. Cheers, -josh
