About Me

Hey! My name is Brendan! I'm 26 years old, and very recently moved from South Carolina.

I work as a formal verification engineer for a web3 company in London, which basically means I do a mix of programming and writing mechanized mathematical proofs.

I'm hoping to team up to get a 2 bedroom apartment somewhere in FiDi, Tribeca, Battery Park City, North Williamsburg, or SoHo (and I'm generally open to other areas in lower-mid Manhattan)! Looking for someone whose budget is roughly between $2200 and $4000, but if you think we'd be good match, please reach out even if that's not the case!

My idea of a perfect day is getting up ridiculously early, running, working out, doing a bit of programming, and doing a lot of math. I am pretty obsessively clean, I definitely want to live with someone who cares deeply about the aesthetic of the space, making it friendly, pretty, and functional. If you are the sort of person who might say, "I think we need to reorganize the entire kitchen to optimize for access to frequently needed items," or "we should set up a schedule for removing clutter from the counters," we will get along famously, haha.

I'm definitely not a 'going-out' person, though I do like to spend most of the day outside of the apartment working in coffee shops or cafes (I work a fully remote position so my hours are quite flexible). I consider it one of my primary goals to be a friendly, warm, kind, funny, entertaining person, and in a perfect world I'd be good friends with the people I live with, and be able to talk about cool things like books, current events, ideas/science, and maybe even collaborate on stuff!

I don't drink or smoke or do any kind of substances. I am extraordinarily straightedge, ahahah.

Some facts about me that you might be curious about:

- I prefer creative activities (writing, programming, designing, building) over consumption activities (watching videos, listening, going out to eat, drinking)
- Some of my favorite authors are Philip Pullman, Amos Tversky, Robert Sapolsky, Vaclav Smil, Jonathan Haidt, Katherine Arden, and Joseph LeDoux
- I like running, and want to be able to run fast (<=6 min/mi) and far (>=17 mi/day), but currently I'm slow :(
- I love to measure things, and I think a lot about statistical rigor in everyday discussions or when I'm trying to figure out cause-and-effect in pretty much any context
- I'm not big on most usual leisure activities, I like being consistent, going to the gym everyday, getting better numbers on stuff
- I'm absolutely LGBTQ+ friendly and happy to room with any gender! Politically, I'm rather neutral.

I think I can get along well with just about anybody, but ideally I'd love to room with someone else interested in mathematics/physics/computer science, or more generally another scientist or book lover. But please reach out if you're interested no matter what!
