Looking for a roommate in Manhattan - New York

Samir A - $1,000/month

About Me

Hey, I’m Samir, 22, moving to NYC to work in fashion design. I also have a bachelor’s degree in architecture and a diploma in fashion design, so apparently I like choosing careers where sleep is optional.
I’m looking for a long-term place in Manhattan, ideally not Harlem, with a budget around $1,100. I’m not really looking for the classic “we split rent and barely speak” roommate situation. I’d love to live with someone I can actually become best friends with — go out together, explore the city, have movie nights, randomly decide to get food at midnight, and also have those deep conversations where somehow we start talking about one thing and two hours later we’re questioning the meaning of life.
I’d say I’m funny, hardworking, protective, social depending on the day, and clean. I really care about keeping shared spaces clean and comfortable. My own room, however, may occasionally look like a small natural disaster happened there. That is between me, my clothes, and God.
I like a teamwork kind of home. I don’t want everything to feel like a business contract. If one person cooks, the other can do the dishes. If one person does laundry, the other can fold. If we both make a mess, then congratulations, we both have a problem. I just like the idea of helping each other and making the apartment feel like an actual home.
I love going out, exploring new places, fashion obviously, gaming, movies, and having people around. I sometimes go to the gym, depending on whether motivation decides to visit me that week. I also like cooking. Am I amazing at it? Absolutely not. Will I confidently attempt something anyway? Absolutely yes. Worst case scenario, we order food.
I’m completely fine with friends or dates coming over. It’s your home too, so live your life. I’m probably the type of roommate who would meet your date the next morning, make breakfast, and then tell them how great you are like I’m your unpaid PR manager.
I don’t drink. I currently smoke cigarettes and occasionally cigars, but I’m trying to stop. I’m also completely respectful about it, so if smoking inside bothers you, I simply won’t smoke inside.
I love animals and I’m fine with pretty much any pet. My only requirement is that your pet understands we are roommates too. If it bites me, I will be deeply offended and we may need to have a serious diplomatic discussion.
The type of person I’d probably get along with best is someone chill, clean, funny, ambitious, mature, and open-minded. The biggest thing for me is communication. If I do something that annoys you, tell me. If it’s issue number 1, 2, or 3, I want to know about it before we reach issue number 47 and suddenly you hate the way I breathe. I’d much rather talk about something, fix it, laugh about it, and move on.
My main dealbreakers are disrespect, extreme messiness in shared spaces, controlling behavior, bad communication, and being unreliable with rent. I genuinely don’t care if you like partying or going out a lot — it’s your life. As long as we respect each other and the apartment, we’re good.
Basically, I’m hoping to find someone who starts as my roommate and hopefully ends up becoming one of my best friends. Someone I can share a home with, explore NYC with, support when life gets stressful, annoy occasionally, cook questionable meals with, and create a lot of really good memories with.
