Stuyvesant Town is a collection of apartment buildings in the East Village which if you venture inside doesn't feel like conventional Manhattan.

There's a central oval where you can sit on the grass and relax with a coffee shop, quiet study area, gym, creche, yoga studio and basketball courts all around the outside. There's free outside movie screenings during the summer and a residents (+ guests) ice skating rink in the winter.

Each building comes with bike storage, an electronic doorman system, electronic keycards for entry, laundry facilities and elevators.

The area outside Stuy Town 2 minute walk to the South is the East Village, full of some of the best bars and restaurants in New York. Having lived here for nearly 3 years, I've never got round to even 20% of the places to go.

You are also 2 minutes walk to the L train (one stop over the river into Williamsburg) or a 10 minute walk to Union Square where you can get the subway to almost anywhere (4, 5, 6, N, Q, R, W, L).

You are also a 5 min walk from the East River with great views uptown and a running/cycle path that runs round the whole island. There's also a NYC ferry terminal newly opened with 1 stop downtown to Wall St or over to LIC.
