I was born in California; grew up moving around between Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi; went to college in St. Louis; came to the Chicago area to go to grad school for Voice & Opera at Northwestern, graduated in 2013 and been here ever since. These days, I work full time in logistics while also still pursuing an opera career on the side. Though I do often need to practice singing, I’m otherwise the kind of guy who enjoys peace and quiet. Available Room for Rent
Shared 2-BR Apartment in Evanston
Seeking new roommate with whom to share 2-BR Apartment in Evanston, to join me beginning either January or February. Total rent for both of us is $1,420/month — your share will be $720 since your room has a much nicer view of the courtyard. Other than that, a parking spot behind the building is another $50/month (optional), and we’ll also split the cost of electricity ($25-40/month, depending on time of year), household items like paper towels etc., and Wi-Fi ($30/month). All other utilities are included.
Current lease you’ll be joining is until the end of August; present roommate needs to move out for personal reasons, though we’re getting along fine. I’m looking for someone who I can get along and enjoy living with peacefully with.
REQUIREMENTS:
1) Being roommates means living together, and two people cannot live together without communication. I cannot live with you if I cannot communicate with you, so please only message me if you speak English fluently — doesn’t have to be your first language, but I need to be able to talk to you easily if we’re going to share living space and expenses. International folks are more than welcome for consideration, but only if English is one of the languages you speak.
2) We are expected to keep the apartment reasonably clean, so please either be clean or be willing to adopt a clean lifestyle. I’m no germaphobe or over-the-top neat freak, but living in a filthy mess is no fun for me, and it won’t be for you either if we’re compatible as roommates.
3) Please have sufficient income to cover your share of the monthly expenses on time and reliably. Though we’re given until the 10th to get the rent paid each month, they are relentless and will evict both of us if it’s not paid past that date. It’d be best if you make enough income so that your share of the rent takes up no more than a third of your monthly income, a quarter is better.
SLAM-DUNK WINS FOR CONSIDERATION:
1) If you plan to hardly ever be around and only need the space to come to sometimes. I’ve had roommates in the past who were out of the apartment the vast majority of the time, and it was admittedly very nice arrangement. If you work super long hours or spend most of your time in a different location and just need the room as extra space for yourself, then I REALLY like your kind of arrangement.
2) If you’re into working out at the gym. I started working out a year and a half ago after being lazy and gluttonous most of my life, and it’s now an important part of my day, five or six days a week. I want to become my healthiest, and it’d be awesome to live with someone who could help or even push me in this goal of mine.
3) You’re into old classic movies or arts and culture. I used to have a roommate with whom I liked to watch older movies every Sunday night; that was fun, and I’ve missed it since he left. Also, I’m actually pursuing a career as an opera singer, so it’d be cool to have a roommate who finds this interesting about me. I do have to practice singing from time to time, and it does get loud, but I can work things out with you so that you don’t be disturbed. Also, after 9PM is quiet time every night.
4) You’re either originally a Southerner or have a fondness for the South. Though born in California, I grew up moving around between Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi and definitely have southern culture raised into me. NO, that does not mean I have a racist bone in my body — it means I seek to be a hospitable gentleman. I, personally, find Southerners to be warm, friendly people compared to the rest of the country and would enjoy having that to share with someone.
None of these “SLAM DUNK WINS” is a requirement, but any one of those will put you VERY HIGH on my list of people to consider.
