First, regarding Covid-19, we take the situation and shelter-in-place order very seriously by:
• regularly disinfecting doorknobs, light switches, faucets, cabinet handles and surfaces, including after food shopping
• increasing house ventilation during the day by keeping windows open if temperature permits
• washing our hands frequently
• mindfully practicing social distancing

My spouse and I are seeking one mature, quiet, responsible, neat/tidy, considerate male to rent a private room with private full bath and private frig in our 2-story shoe-free house within a mile (20-minute walk or 10-minute bike ride) of UC Berkeley. The room is for one person only. The house will be shared with the owner (me) and my wife, who lives here part-time. I’m a 62-year old male UC Berkeley staff member who will soon be retiring. The available room and bath are on the first floor. Our rooms are on the second floor.

The house is located in a peaceful, safe, Central Berkeley neighborhood (California St. near Bancroft) within a 10-15 minute walk to downtown Berkeley, 2 BART stations, AC transit, shops, restaurants, and movie theaters. The room is 165 sq. ft. and furnished with a queen-size mattress and bed frame, armoire, desk, chair and closet. Rent includes use of full laundry facilities, living room, full-size eat-in kitchen (incl. dishwasher and microwave) with stainless steel appliances, and use of a private, mini-frig/freezer. Approximately 1000 sq. ft. living space. House has central heat. Ample street parking with no permit required. Bike can be kept in basement, which can also be used for limited storage.

Seeking someone who can make a minimum 12-month commitment, communicates well, cleans up after himself and pays rent/expenses on time. Month-to-month rental. Move in costs include first/last month plus $500 security deposit ($2700 total). Rent includes garbage. Share 1/3 cost of PG&E/Water/Wi-Fi. Will need proof of income plus background check. If you’re a student, a financial aid packet is fine.

No pets, drugs, smoking (tobacco or pot), alcohol or parties. May work best for someone more on the introvert side who enjoys quiet, being independent (e.g. we tend to all eat at different times) and wants a place to retreat.
