Hi there! My name is Ramon and I am a PhD student at the New School, studying cultural anthropology. I moved to NYC from the Netherlands, where I grew up, and I have lived here for the past 5.5 years. My background is mixed, having an Afro-Caribbean mother (from Suriname) and a white Dutch father, and that returns in my academic interests of racism, antiracism, colonialism, migration, and the politics around all that. In the end, I do hope to contribute to making this world a better place.
As a roommate I’m somewhat of a private person, mostly because I struggle with social anxiety and depression, although I do open up :) I’m a peaceful person, relaxed, quiet, and most of my days I’m busy with my studies. I do enjoy sitting down now and again and catch up with each other, and I am a pretty good cook! I appreciate a clean bathroom and kitchen, but I’m not obsessive about it (and I will of course do my part in keeping it clean). My current roommate said I am the best roommate he has ever had! I’m looking for a new place to live because my roommate needs more space as he’s working more from home. I have good credit (750+) and a steady income in the form of a fellowship stipend and additional employment at my university. I would prefer to find a place in Manhattan, but would also be open to neighborhoods in Brooklyn (such as Bed-Stuy, Crown Heights, Bushwick, Williamsburg, and other). I can stay in my current place until at least February 1. I am allergic to cats and most dogs.
I’m a good listener, and other people say that I’m helpful, friendly, and caring. What is important to me is a LGBTQ+ friendly environment, as I am gay myself. Actually, I hope our apartment would be an anti-oppressive space in general, meaning that there would be no room for intolerance/hate of any kind (race, gender, ability, religion, etc.). What I am hoping to find in a roommate is someone respectful, easygoing and friendly, and hopefully we can together create a space of peace, understanding, and kindness.
