A lot of my time is spent at work, yet, what really matters to me in a roomate is something that is strangely hard to capture in words -- personality, dependability, being able to communicate clearly and easily get along.
You never know when or how you find it. For example, I (an atheist engineer) just spent three years living with a "best roomate ever", who also happened to be a devout Christian woman -- we were like brother and sister before she moved out to live with her girlfriend.
