About Me

I’m Sara (she/her) a 35-year-old sociology PhD candidate working toward finishing my dissertation in the next year. This means I am in *the zone* and am looking for a roommate who is equally absorbed in their work/hobbies/etc. I work from home a few days a week and am often around on afternoons and weekends. In my free time, I enjoy cooking, lifting weights, hiking, swimming, and messing around (quietly!) on my acoustic guitar. I don't drink and ask that we keep home free of alcohol (weed is ok).

I tend to keep to myself for the most part, but enjoy low-key hangs and am open to making new friends. I value a calm, tidy, clean living space — if you have a hard time keeping things neat, tidy, and clutter-free, we won’t be a good fit. I go to bed pretty early and get up pretty early during the week (sorry) and would prefer that you be on a similar schedule.

Available Room for Rent

Bright, sunny, cozy Cambridgeport apartment

The room: Spacious, lots of windows/gets great light, and has a deep walk-in closet with lots of shelving. Can easily fit a queen-sized bed, desk, dresser etc.

The apartment: 2-bedroom/1-bath with a shared deck and huge eat-in kitchen/pantry area. Hardwood floors throughout. Although the rooms are big, the apartment itself is small and has a somewhat tricky layout. In the past I've shared the living room with my roommate, but that's tricky because it's sort of an extension of my room (my closet is in it, for example). So, this year I've decided to pay a bit extra to include that room as part of my private space (total rent is $2,500 and you'll pay $1,150). I ask that we keep the apartment free of get-togethers and parties. It’s important to me that home feels like a sanctuary from the outside world, so I ask for peace and quiet, especially given the way things are laid out. It's totally fine if you want to have the occasional friend over, but if you like to entertain at home then this apartment is not a good fit.

The neighborhood: Apartment is on a quiet street in the highly sought after neighborhood of Cambridgeport, nestled between Harvard and MIT and under a five-minute walk from Central Square. Close to Red line and the 47 bus route. Off-street parking available with permit. Easy and pleasant walk to Boston University’s main campus, too!

Things I love:
-Free laundry in the kitchen/pantry area
-Large bedrooms and kitchen
-The apartment gets great light, awesome for plant-lovers
-Attentive and responsive landlord

Things that could be better, but are workable:
-no dishwasher, but not a huge deal if you do your dishes right away (dirty dishes in the sink are a dealbreaker for me).
-Utilities not included and can get a little pricey in the colder months (internet + gas + heat together can be around $150-200 per person), but apartment is not difficult to heat since it is small.
