i am very experienced in living with roommates. The best place to start is with a very detailed search and interview process, making sure that both me and my roommate are in alignment on 'living situations'.
My personality is low-key, i have a sense of humor, and I want the apartment to feel like a sanctuary from the stresses of New York daily life. i want our relationship to be a friendly one. As the primary leaseholder, I will handle any issues that arise with the building management. and i prefer to have face-to-face discussions, rather than text messages. i respect roommates' schedules and boundaries.
For starters, i am prioritizing people who are willing to commit to at least one full calendar year. short term stays are very disruptive for me. We will sign an agreement which is not LEGALLY BINDING, but I do require the first and last months' rent to be paid before move-in, which is pretty standard.
THE RENT IS $1550.00 PER MONTH. THAT FEE INCORPORATES ALL BILLS, SO YOU WILL NOT BE ON THE HOOK FOR ANY EXTRAS. It includes gas and electric (yes, air conditioning too in your room and the living room,a weekly housekeeper from 9 am to1pm on Thursday. She is responsible for the shared spaces, kitchen, living room, and bathroom. i like to keep these spaces neat throughout the week. if you cook, you are responsible for cleaning the stove and oven.i will generaly takeout the garbage from time to time. And may ask your help occasionally as I am sufferinging from sciatic nerve pain in my back.
i am a bibliophile and my bedroom and the living room have floor-to-ceiling bookcasess. My father was born and raised in Beijing and each of my brothers was born in a different world capital; JIM(DECEASD) born in WashingtonDC, and my youngest brother was born in Paris,FRANCE.
so to wrap this up, i am very interested in people's origin stories, and several of my roommates have become good friends. I am curious about the world, especially art and archaeology.
IF I sound like a viable roommate, please message me, and we can take the next steps. i am hoping for a May 1 move-in, but priority is to find the right person. THANK YOU, JOHN

The room is west-facing, with lots of light. The monthly fee INCLUDES RENT, PLUS ALL BILLS; GAS, ELECTRIC, AIRCONDITIONING, WEEKLY HOUSEKEEPER. THE ROOMMATE WILL HAVE NO ADDITIONAL FEES. I just require the first and last months' rent before move-in.
The room was designed by a former roommate, an architect, who features a large desk, a loft bed, both very secure, and a great lighting system. There are storage units, a closet, a full-size double mattress, a new window air conditioner, and it will be installed by the building management.
My roommate has privacy, and I am quiet but friendly. The living room has a large tv which is not functioning now. I don't watch TV, but it can be activated.
The kitchen is compact. i do not cook, but the roommate is welcome to using the stove, i just like to keep the public areas tidy and expect dishes to be washed (no dishwasher). I am considerate and respectful, and expect the same.
I AM LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO STAY ONE FULL CALENDAR YEAR. NO SHORT-TERM STAYS.
The neighborhood, soho and the Village have Trader Joe's, dry cleaners, a hardware store, and CVS around the corner. Close to the Hudson River Park for walking, biking, and running, and plenty of great cafes, restaurants, and bars.
The neighbors in the building are mostly very friendly. Most importantly, we are close to all major subway and bus lines.
