Hi Roomies!
This is a pretty long bio, so brace yourselves! I’m just very clear on what I want and my dealbreakers at this point in my life, so here goes:
My name is Saritha and I’m a 34 yo black queer femme and native NYC-er! I’ve lived in Brooklyn for the past 11 years and it definitely feels like home. I work as a teaching artist for the DOE through an organization called LEAP and I absolutely love it! It’s the most fulfilling job I’ve ever had and it facilitates my creativity, which is an added bonus. I work with K-5 students teaching them everything from music to theater to entrepreneurship via STEAM. My in-school residencies are in every borough but SI, thankfully (lol). I’m not taking a boat to work. I also work for an organization called Treasure Trunk Theatre working with 3-8 year olds teaching them theater — it’s just as adorable as you might imagine.
What I seek in a roommate are the same things I offer: kindness, warmth, respect, general pleasantness and manners, good hygiene (seems basic, but you’d be surprised), consideration, open & clear communication, responsibility (around paying rent and bills on time), reasonable cleanliness (I’m not anal by any means but filth, unpleasant odors and clutter stress me out), and a sense of humor (living in NYC is a wild and very unique experience so I try to keep laughter and joy central to my existence in order to maintain homeostasis & peace).
My general routine is being in bed by 11 the latest on weekdays and being up by 7/7:30am (I’m definitely a morning person). Most of my residencies are early in the day and in the evening I can be found working out at the gym or taking a class, seeing live music or comedy, lesson planning, watching a show, catching up with friends or running errands. When I’m in a musical or play, rehearsals and performances take up my evenings and weekends. I also go to therapy via Zoom on Monday mornings and I use a white noise machine for privacy. Additionally, I take acting and voice lessons via Zoom once a week for each craft. I use white noise for those as well so as not to disturb whoever I’m sharing space with.
FYI I love listening to music on my bluetooth speaker while cooking, cleaning, showering or doing admin work for my job but I am very reasonable and accommodating about volume and don’t play loud music at early morning hours or past 9pm (and also I just have really good taste in music) and I’m flexible on that for whoever I’m living with.
Additionally, I would prefer only one roommate that is at least double vaxxed, left-leaning, ideally BIPOC, in their late 20s or 30s, employed outside of the apartment, not intent on having wild parties or loud noise late at night, in a room that doesn’t share a wall with mine, ok with a simple chore rotation or getting a cleaning service 1 or 2 times a month and is ok with me being month-to-month with the hopes of staying for at least 15 more months in the apartment. Would like to try us out for 2-3 months before committing. Committing immediately with strangers before knowing our rhythms of living together has put me in bad situations. But, trust, if we are a good match after 2 months, I’ll sign on.
My credit score is fine but my income is better and I am open to paying an extra month’s security if that would cancel out my credit score.
That’s me! If you have any other questions, please reach out! All the best in your search!
Best regards,
Saritha
